YWAM Denver Freqently Asked Questions

Can God really use me in Christian missions?

Absolutely. Not only that, He wants to! Jesus gave His life on a cross so that all men and women could have fellowship with God. There are millions upon millions of people in this world who do not know about God's incredible sacrifice. Untold thousands die each hour without ever having heard about Jesus and His love for them. God yearns for Christians who will take the good news of Jesus Christ into a lost and dying world.

What is the first step in getting involved with YWAM?

Every person in YWAM completes a Discipleship Training School (DTS).

How long is a DTS?

The DTS lasts five months. The first twelve weeks are spent in Denver. There you will spend time in lectures, worship, intercession, local evangelism and a host of other activities. It is a time to focus 100% on God and develop a deeper relationship with Him. The staff and community structure help develop discipline in your personal prayer life and study habits. For most people, the lecture phase of DTS is the most life changing twelve weeks of their lives.

Following the lecture phase, each DTS participant goes on a missions trip to an international location for seven weeks. Following the outreach phase, all DTS students spend a Debrief Week in Denver prior to graduation.

How much does a DTS cost?

Much less than a semester at most colleges. The DTS cost includes tuition, food, and housing. The total cost for DTS is $3,195 US Dollars AND $1300 for an outreach to Mexico or Canada. There will also be opportunities for other international outreaches at higher costs, generally ranging between $1,200 and $3,000 US Dollars. For more specific details about costs, please visit the DTS information page.

Do I get college credit for completing a DTS?

Yes you do. The Discipleship Training Program at YWAM Denver is accredited with the University of the Nations in Kona, HI. Credits from the U of N are transferable to a number of respected Christian colleges in the United States. Students will receive 12 credit hours for the DTS lecture phase and 8 credit hours for the DTS outreach phase. To find out more about the University of the Nations, please call them at 808-326-4400 or e-mail them at admissions@uofnkona.edu

How old do I have to be and what are the requirements for acceptance?

You need to be eighteen years of age or older, or a high school graduate to apply for DTS. Apart from the age requirement, we ask only that you fill out a simple application to be evaluated by our school leaders. We don't require college degrees, work experience or seminary background. If you're on fire for God and are ready to meet His challenges, then you're ready for a DTS.

What is a normal day like for a student at YWAM Denver?

In planning the daily curriculum for our students, we have made every effort to balance a challenging, active schedule, with lots of time for relaxation and processing new teachings. Past students agree that our recipe has been a successful one.

A normal day for a DTS student might be as follows:

06:30 a.m. wake up
07:00 a.m. breakfast
07:30 a.m. quiet time
08:30 a.m. worship
09:30 a.m. intercession
10:10 a.m. morning break
10:30 a.m. lecture
12:30 p.m. lunch
01:30 p.m. lecture

What is there to do for fun during our free time?

There are countless activities around Denver and the State for our students to enjoy. See our Colorado Facts page for some highlights.

Where will the international outreach go? Do you konw ahead of time?

Generally, the international outreaches are planned during the course of your lecture phase. Because of this time frame, it is difficult to predict precisely where the international outreach will be going before the school begins. Generally, our outreach locations are determined four weeks prior to the beginning of school. Call or email for more details.

In the past we have taken teams to places like India, Thailand, Nepal, Hong Kong, Isreal, Russia, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Argentina, Mauritania, Gambia, Greece, Egypt, Mexico, Central America and many others. No matter where we go, you can bet it will be the adventure of a lifetime.

Do you have short-term opportunities available as well?

Yes indeed! Check out our Mission Opportunities .
